So the cold weather is coming to an end & the blossoms are beginning to bloom. It’s time to shake off all the layers of clothing & start showing off our skin again. Oh no! If you are anything like me throughout the winter months, when I’m covering up & hibernating inside where it’s warm & cozy, you may also be guilty of possibly neglecting your skin just a little bit, or maybe a lot. We’ve been wearing a lot of clothes & it’s too hard to cleanse, exfoliate & moisturise, right? It’s much easier (& more fun) to snuggle up with a good book or movie, on the couch, with a yummy hot chocolate (& possibly other naughty foods) & a loved one. Definitely! No judgement here.

However, now it is time to ready ourselves for the inevitable shedding of our clothing (& maybe our skin) & reveal our NATURALLY TRUE selves to the world, once again!

There are a lot of similarities between how nature changes & what our body & skin does when the seasons change. This gives us the perfect comparison to explain the steps we should take to move from our relaxed state during the cold months to get ready for the beautiful days ahead!

Beauty can be a dirty business.! It’s really important that you regularly clean out your bathroom vanity or cosmetic bag. Now is the perfect time for a complete spring clean of all your makeup and skincare products. I know it’s hard to throw away anything that still has a bit of product still in it. But trust me it’s better for your skin and your health that you do.

TAKE A BIG BREATH… and throw away any skin care or makeup products over a year old if they are in a sealed container & if they are in jarred or open container, throw them out after six months. Skin care products start losing their effectiveness and/or dry out once they are opened so you can’t leave them unused for long periods of time. Not to mention the unhealthy nasties that could be thriving in products that have had fingers or uncleaned brushes etc in them. Anything that is broken or damaged should go as well. Everyone is guilty of a cracked powder or a favourite lipstick that has seen better days, however keeping your make up bag clean is important to keeping your skin radiant & clear.

It’s also a good time to clean your makeup brushes while you’re at it. Your brushes can harbor bacteria and clog pores if they aren’t cleaned regularly. Check out our blog on cleaning your brushes.

As well as any other tools you use to maintain your beautiful self. Taking the time to clean out stray hairs, dead skin, & product buildup will not only keep your rituals bacteria free, but also lengthens the life of your tools. Replace any makeup sponges & clean your eyelash curler (replace it if the rubber pads are damaged). Clean your straightening iron by wiping the plates with baking soda, while unplugged (Avoid harsh scrubbing, though, which may scratch the finish on your iron).
It’s important that everything you use on your skin or body is super clean, to ensure you and your skin is at it’s healthiest.
